What is Gin Rummy?
Gin Rummy is the classic head-to-head card duel — born in 1909, polished in the Hollywood lounges of the thirties, and still the sharpest two-player game in the deck. No tricks, no trumps: just ten cards each, one draw at a time, and a running decision about when your hand is good enough to knock. Play Gin Rummy online free against a smart bot or challenge a friend in a private room.
How a hand works
- Both players get 10 cards. Each turn you draw — from the face-down stock or the face-up discard pile — and then discard.
- You're weaving your hand into melds: sets of the same rank (7♦ 7♥ 7♠) and runs in one suit (4♣ 5♣ 6♣).
- Whatever doesn't fit a meld is deadwood, and every card of it counts against you.
- Knock — discard face-down — as soon as your deadwood is 10 or less. Zero deadwood is gin.
- Hands accumulate until someone reaches 100 points, then the bonuses settle the match.

Common questions
- What counts as deadwood?
- Any card not part of a set or run. Aces count 1, face cards 10, everything else its number — and shrinking that total is the whole game.
- What's an undercut?
- You knock, but your opponent's deadwood is equal or lower — they take the difference plus a 25-point bonus. Knocking early isn't always safe.
- Can I play Gin Rummy online with a friend?
- Yes — gin is a two-player duel, so create a private room and send them the code.
- Can I play Gin Rummy against the computer?
- Yes. A smart bot is always ready for a game, so you can play any time, even when your friends are busy.
- Do I need to download anything?
- No. Gin Rummy runs right in your browser, on a computer or a phone, with nothing to install.
